We are strongly condemning the fascist assassination attack on Hrant Dink, chief editor of the newspaper Agos. Our condolences to all our peoples. We declare our solidarity with the newspaper Agos and emphasize that we will offer support to them, by all means possible.
The forces behind this attack are the same as those who charged Hrant Dink relying on article 301 and those provoking lynch attempts in front of the court. It is the state, the regime itself. But once again, the murderer will try to hide himself behind the term 'assasin unknown'. Or the intention will be to acquit the state from the assassination and leave the guilt on a simple pawn. The attack on the intellectuals to keep them silent had started in the courtrooms and now going on with armed attacks.
The timing of the assassination, that it was realized short after the Ankara conference of intellectuals (among them Hrant Dink) demanding democratic solution in the Kurdish question, can in no case be considered as a coincidence. The assassination of Dink is an answer of fascism to his intellectual stance in Ankara. Our intellectuals, who are raising their voice for democratic peace with the Kurdish people, are given a bloody message to keep them silent. This is nothing else than cowardice and despair.
Those, who bombed the bookshop Umut in Şemdinli, who put bombs at a children's park in Diyarbakir, those who killed many intellectuals like Musa Anter, Vedat Aydin, Uğur Mumcu, this time held their guns towards a defender of democracy and brotherhood.
The revelation and account by the counterguerilla gangs and their commanders responsible for pulling the trigger at this despicable killing, the 'good boys' and their 'daddies', totally depends on the bravery and determination of the forces demanding freedom.
All democratic forces must unite in order to demand an account for the barbaric attacks on the Armenian society's right of existence in this country, on the freedom of press and the right of taking a democratic attitude concerning Kurdish and Armenian questions.
All our friends from Europe and the world, democratic and socialist forces, should tell the peoples that this racist suicide does not mean that the Turkish people is supporting these crimes. Let us also, confront the racist lies that “all Turks are barbarian, murderer, racist”. Everyone should see the popular masses in the streets. Turkish, Kurdish, Laz, Arabic, Armenian... Tens of thousands of people from all nationalities are on the streets, untiringly since the murder had happened. The newspaper's building is a point of visit, filled with hundreds of people, 24 hours a day. And more will be on the streets, on Tuesday, for the funeral.
Whom to defend and support is this people on the streets, on the conquest for truth and justice.
